World's first 3D LED gaming monitor - BenQ's XL2410T sneaks into the Indian market

BenQ - one of the leading brands among the LCD manufacturing companies has reportedly announced the launch of what it calls the world's first 3D LED gaming monitor - the XL2410T with the intent of capturing the gaming market by storm. Priced at Rs. 31,200, the full 1080p HD monitor incorporates the following hardware specifications: 23.6-inch display, 16:9 aspect ratio, 2ms response time, 1920x1080 pixel resolution, and 120Hz refresh rate (Nvidia 3D Visioncertified) - rated to deliver the ultimate 3D gaming experience.

With all the technology in place for fast-paced 3D action games particularly the first person shooters, the high refresh rate (120Hz) with short response time (2ms) and FPS display mode is said to enhance the gaming experience by a big notch! It is reported to result in minimal lags during headshots, so that the actual hits are very much in sync with the visuals on-screen, leading to a better user experience. It is also rated to deliver most stable brightness and flicker-free images for truly sharp images even in night scenes or in dark game environments.
In addition, a dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1, wide-range of aspect ratios: Full, Aspect, Overscan, 1:1, 17”, 19”, 19” Widescreen and 22” Widescreen; PBP (Picture-By-Picture); and Nvidia 3D Vision ready configuration should provide an irresistible treat to gaming enthusiasts & high-end multimedia freaks alike.
The TN monitor's MRP is set at Rs. 31,200, though you can expect street prices to fall soon enough - owing to the market competition and initial sales.

Nintendo announces Nintendo 3DS for 2011 launch; will feature 3D effects without 3D glasses

Nintendo shocked the world early this morning, by issuing a press release that tells of a new gaming platform to be released before the financial year ending March 2011, called the Nintendo 3DS. While it is a temporary name, the spirit behind it will not change, as Nintendo says the portable video game console will feature “3D effects” that can be enjoyed “without the need for any special glasses”.
As the technology for such a feat is not yet available, it can be safely assumed that Nintendo is sitting on a golden egg, one that will keep other portable gaming consoles even further away than its predecessor the Nintendo DS did, which sold more than 125 million units by the end of 2009. Further information about the new Nintendo 3DS will be revealed by the company at the E3 event this year, which starts June 15th in Los Angeles. The new Nintendo 3DS will also be backward compatible with the Nintendo DS and DSi, as heard on NeoGAF

LG introduces the Xnote A510, its first 3D laptop

LG just introduced a 3D laptop that’s almost capable of full 1080p HD resolution, something that Acer showed off just yesterday with a full 1080p HD 3D-capable 18.4-inch laptop that will be priced unbelievably under $1,000.

So, what exactly is so great about the LG Xnote A510 then? Well, it is LG’s first 3D laptop, and, it doesn’t require you to use active shutter glasses to view the 3D, instead you can use specially polarized 3D glasses that cost less, weigh less, and last longer. It's also apparently the first premium laptop to boast of delivering a "cinematic 3D experience." The laptop ships with the polarized glasses, as well as polarized clip-ons that will fit on your prescription glasses.

Though the Xnote A510’s 15.6-inch LED backlit screen supposedly offers 1920x1080 resolution, LG repeatedly mentioned the laptop only features “near full HD.” Quite puzzling! The mentioned resolution on a 15.6-inch screen is definitely startling though, and probably incorrect.

Other features of the LG Xnote A510 include TriDef software that will upconvert 2D images to 3D, SRS TruSurround HD audio, Blu-ray disc drive, HDMI 1.4 jack, up to 640GB HDD, up to 4GB DDR3 RAM, Intel Core i7-740QM, Nvidia GeForce GT 425M GPU with 1GB GDDR3 RAM, and LED fingerprint reader. There are plenty of other processor options within the Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 family being offered, as well as numerous GPU options.
The LG Xnote A510 will apparently start shipping in October across Asia, South America, Africa and the Middle East, but for now, no prices have been revealed.

Motorola tablet taps Nvidia for 3D

Motorola's upcoming tablet packs relatively powerful Nvidia 3D silicon, confirming a demo Nvidia did a year ago at the Consumer Electronics Show and underscoring the importance of graphics in future tablets.
The Motorola prototype running Google's Honeycomb, the next version of Android, was shown at the D: Dive Into Mobile in San Francisco Monday.
"We're taking advantage of the 3D processing power. The particular processor is Nvidia. Their dual-core 3D processor. These guys really know 3D," said Google's Andy Rubin when showing off a new 3D version of Google Maps, which is due for cell phones "in a matter of days." The new version of Google Maps for Mobile will draw using vector graphics, which can result in more responsive mapping because less bandwidth is required. Google Maps will also allow buildings and locations to be rotated via a touch interface. His discussion of the tablet was streamed from the conference (see video, right).

That processor would be Nvidia's Tegra 2, of course. That chip is one of the first to pack a dual-core Cortex-A9 ARM processor with a graphics chip that delivers mobile "3D game playability and a visually engaging, highly-responsive 3D user interface," according to Nvidia.
Motorola's tablet was first revealed via an Nvidia demo at last year's Consumer Electronics Show. At that time, an Nvidia representative characterized the device as a Motorola-Verizon tablet and said it contained an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor.
The tablet's 3D capability that Rubin praised shows that Nvidia's expertise in 3D may give it a leg up on competitors. And it certainly puts Intel on notice, which has not emphasized 3D to date in its mainstream Atom processors targeted at small devices like tablets.
And a wave of tablets is about to break packing dual-core chips from Texas Instruments (OMAP 4) and Qualcomm (MSM8660), according to Ashok Kumar, an analyst at Rodman & Renshaw, all packing enhanced 3D processing. "[Nvidia] is fairly competitive but the offset is Qualcomm, which has most of the wins in new tablets," Kumar said, adding that TI will also be in a few high-profile designs.

LG unveiling premium 3D eyewear at CES

LG wants to prove that 3D eyewear can be comfortable as well as attractive. Toward that end, it's partnering Alain Mikli International from Paris to introduce a new line of premium goggles. The French design firm has more than 30 years of experience in manufacturing glasses and runs a chain of boutiques worldwide in cities like New York and Milan. The chaebol has cited lackluster 3D eyewear as a key hurdle for consumers to adopt the 3D TV technology and hopes to raise the bar in design, fit, and user comfort through this collaboration.
Some of the highlights of its upcoming offerings are a special nose pad to ensure a snug fit, spring-hinged arms with extended tips for added ergonomics, and an optimal weight ratio to minimize fatigue during long usage. These premium 3D glasses will be showcased at CES 2011 and are due for launch after the annual tech trade show in Las Vegas. I just hope LG also addresses the nausea induced by the offscreen flickering issue inherent in most current goggles under room lighting.
